One of the Core Web Vitals metrics, First Input Delay (FID) , measures responsiveness, but there are known limitations of FID . The Chrome team wanted to explore a previously experimental metric and gather feedback on it to more effectively overcome these limitations. In 2022 , the team announced Interaction to Next Paint (INP) as a new metric and began working with the community to test its effectiveness. After testing this metric for a year and gathering feedback from the community, the team decided to make INP a new Core Web Vitals responsiveness metric, replacing FID, starting in March 2024. The Chrome team's blog post explains this change and the thinking behind the new metric in more detail.
What this means for Google Search Console The new Buy Email Database List metric " INP" will replace FID in Core Web Vitals in March 2024. To help site owners and developers take the necessary steps and evaluate their pages against the new metric, Search Console will include INP in the Core Web Vitals report later this year. When INP replaces FID in March 2024, FID metrics will no longer be shown in the Search Console report and INP will be used as the new responsiveness metric. What this means for website owners If you've been following our guidelines for improving Core Web Vitals, you've already thought about the responsiveness of your pages. The improvements made to FID are a good foundation for improving INP and the responsiveness of your pages.
We recommend that website owners aim for good Core Web Vitals scores to be successful in Google Search and to provide a good user experience in general. However, good page usability is more than just good Core Web Vitals scores. Good statistics in the Core Web Vitals report in Search Console or in third-party Core Web Vitals reports are no guarantee of good rankings. For more information on how Core Web Vitals fit into a holistic approach to page usability, see our guide to page usability in Google search results. For more information about the new metric, see the Chrome team's blog post . For instructions on how to optimize your pages for INP, see here.
