The 2,180 cooperatives based in the Valencian Community employ more than 75,300 workers, which represents 6% of the total salaried work in the private sector.
This is one of the conclusions of the “ Study on the economic impact of cooperativism Email Data in the Valencian Community ” that was jointly presented this morning by the president of the Confederation of Cooperatives , Emili Villaescusa , and its authors, José Luis Monzón and Santiago Murgui , from the International Research Center on Public, Social and Cooperative Economy ( Ciriec ).

For their part, the sales of cooperatives based in the Community amount to more than 6 billion euros, which represents 6.1% of the Valencian GDP. Faced with this data, Villaescusa has stated that " the objective is for cooperatives to become one of the great engines of the Valencian economy, where capital is instrumental and a reference in the development of social actions ."
The study has also prepared a directory of cooperatives grouped by sectors. “ It should be noted that in the Community there are more than 100 teaching cooperatives; credit cooperatives, with 14% of the market share, double national rates; and agri-food, associated labor, and consumer and user cooperatives top the classification ,” Monzón detailed .
If we classify them by size, 40% have between 200 and 600 members, 24% have less than 200 members, 14% have between 600 and 1,000 members and the remaining 22% have more than 1,000 members. By province, Valencia is in first position, with a total of 2,180 cooperatives. In second place, Alicante brings together 586 cooperatives and, finally, Castellón brings together 333.
