We can still get some numbers even though there is no official player count for Xbox One, PS5 or PC.
It's no surprise, given the reviews and general reactions to Black Op 7 bot lobbies, that you all want to know how many people play. Our own opinion is that it's one of the most bizarre entries in the series since a very long time. It's a game that's causing strong opinions, from its not so mind-bending story, to its surprising boss fights, to its giant machetes. Not to mention its always-online co-op "single-player". How does that translate into the total number of players? Take a look.
How many people play Black Ops 7 today?
Steam DB, which tracks player counts and peaks across all Steam games, is the best way to determine how many people are currently playing bo7 accounts. This game currently has a peak of 74,782. This is a big drop from the 491,670 peak of Modern Warfare 2 three years ago.
The current player count is a continuation of the general decline since April 2025, when it reached a peak of 138 335 players. Since then, the player count has decreased month by month. The exception was a 99,072 peak last month.
In general, a game's peak is when it launches a new version. For example, Black Ops 6 had 313,313 players peaking last year, but since July 2025 the game has struggled to reach 100K. As noted in our Black Ops 7 Review, the overall strangeness of the game has definitely had an effect on this year's release. Looking back at the data to 2022, the average was 178 267 players peaking between then and the start of this year, when the decline began.
This only gives us a rough idea of PC gamers, but we do know that consoles take about 24% and mobile games 50%. Assuming a ratio of almost one to one, the peak 24-hour player count for Black Ops 7, on all platforms, would be approximately 160,000. This does not include Battlenet users or services like GeForce Now where BO7 can also be played, but it is a rough estimate.
Black Ops 7 is a return to the future in 2035 after the blast from the past that was Black Ops 6 last year. From the very first mission onwards, gunfights are as smooth as ever. My co-op team mates and myself immediately abandon stealth to go loud.
After a mishap involving a mind-altering biological weapon, giant machetes start falling from the sky. I find myself in a real-life boss battle with David Mason's former nemesis Raul Méndez and his nightmare minions. Black Ops is always weird, but I am even playing a Call of Duty?
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has no doubt been ambitious. It's not only committed to creating a campaign that is radically different from previous games, but also in trying to fit so much into the game, including multiplayer, zombies, and Endgame, a PvE-only mode of extraction. It's a polished game that takes the best of Black Ops 6 and combines it with Black Ops 2's DNA. This is a Call of Duty that's not afraid to experiment or get wild. Black Ops 7 is a game that aims at many targets. However, it doesn't always succeed.
Raul Menendez returns to the Call of Duty universe 10 years after Black Ops 2. The arms-dealer-turned-populist-revolutionary-and-social-media-legend is back from the dead with a threatening video message for a world left vulnerable by the anarchy caused by his Cordis Die group in 2025 and beyond. The Guild, a tech company built on the bones of a criminal group of the same name featured in Black Ops 6, is ready to offer peace.
The story is rushed and weak, despite the interesting premise. It builds nicely on Black Ops 2's fallout. The opening cutscenes are just enough to set the scene, but when Black Ops 6's Troy Marshall, now an elderly man, explains to Mason about the Guild's psy-op in its Mediterranean Avalon headquarters that could (somehow be) linked to Menendez you're thrust into the action.
