Valencian science and innovation are developing multiple projects to alleviate the health emergency caused by Covid-19. Research centers and innovative companies in the Valencian Community have received public funding and private donations to carry out R&D&I projects on the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the disease it causes.

Specifically, there are 11 projects that have received funding from the Covid Fund and that are developed in the Valencian territory, according to the Ministry of Science and Innovation recently published. Most of them are located in the city of Valencia and its surroundings.

Institute of Corpuscular Physics (IFIC-CSIC)

Coordinates a project based on radiographic chest inspection screening in Email Data patients with COVID-19. Using machine learning technologies, the research will help the development of a radiological screening system based on artificial intelligence to help identify the most serious cases of the disease.
Foundation for the Promotion of Health and Biomedical Research of the Valencian Community (FISABIO)

The achievement of new genomic sequences of the coronavirus is the objective of this research that will carry out characterization studies of the virus to understand its possible genetic variations and the virus-host interaction. The information obtained will be used to carry out epidemiological studies.
Institute of Biomedicine of Valencia (IBV-CSIC)

Structural analysis of SARS-CoV-2 membrane proteins with the aim of designing new inhibitors of viral assembly. The research seeks to improve knowledge of protein-protein interactions between structural viral proteins, basic information to understand how coronaviruses assemble and be able to design therapeutic tools that prevent it.
Project to improve knowledge of disease transmission patterns, improving epidemiological information. The research, of a global nature, seeks to improve knowledge in different areas, combining genomic, clinical and epidemiological information to specify transmission mechanisms, facilitate the therapeutic approach, promote diagnosis and establish public health recommendations.
An ambitious scientific project led by CSIC researchers in collaboration with 40 hospitals throughout Spain will study the comparative genomes of the new coronavirus from patients with Covid19 disease, to understand and predict the evolution and epidemiology of the virus. The study also aims to provide information to public health authorities. The data generated will be deposited in public repositories, as well as on the global platform NextStrain (nextstrain.org). The project is integrated into the new Global Health Interdisciplinary Thematic Platform, which the CSIC has launched to address the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus through research.
