Facebook gives up podcasts a year after launching its commitment to digital

Facebook has recently announced that podcasts will no longer be available on the social network from June 3 and from this week it will not be possible to add new programs, as reported by Bloomberg. The removal of the format also brings the end of the Soundbites short-form audio feature, small audio clips under 5 minutes.


This is a format that has only been on the platform for a year, Dubai Email List announced in April , but launched in June of the same year.

Although its expansion had already occurred in recent years, during the pandemic, the digital audio market became spectacularly popular around the world, with new podcasting platforms, new creators and massive acceptance by the public. An example of this were companies like Spotify, or even Amazon , which bought the entire Wondery podcast network. We even experienced the rise and fall of Clubhouse, the live audio platform.  These trends made Facebook's entry into digital audio inevitable. But now, just a year later, its parent company Meta has decided to go in a different direction.

Thus, podcasts will no longer be available from June 3 and American users will not be able to continue adding content starting this week , the company reported in a document sent to its clients, according to information collected by Bloomberg. Similarly, Facebook has prepared to close its central audio hub where all audio content was stored, as well as its short-form audio feature called Soundbites .

       

A company spokesperson explained to Bloomberg that “ we constantly evaluate the features we offer so we can focus on the most meaningful experiences . ” He also announced that the exact date of when Soundbites and the audio center would close is not known, but he did specify that it would be done in the “coming weeks.”

In the memo sent to partners with the information, Facebook said it would not alert users about plans to remove podcasts, to let content creators decide how to report the news.

You can still enjoy the possibility of creating live audio rooms, a format that is very similar to the one used by Clubhouse. This will continue to be available as part of the Facebook Live Audio Rooms direct content section , where users will be able to decide if they want the live content to be video and audio or just audio.
