When we had all gotten used to it, Mark Zuckerberg, the owner and lord of Facebook, has decided to get serious with his turn towards the metaverse and will announce the name change of the company (not the social network) at the next Connect, the event company's annual event  that will take place on October 28, as The Verge has exclusively announced.

What will it be called from then on? That is a secret kept under five golden keys. Although we know that it will be related , or at least will refer to what we know today as the metaverse, a new environment of interconnected virtual experiences through the use of technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality. That is Facebook's future bet, in which it will invest 43 million euros in the next two years.

Horizon Worlds, the most recent name change for a Facebook product
With the name change, it is also intended that users stop seeing the company only as Denmark Email List a social media company and position itself as a technological matrix behind products such as Instagram, Messenger or WhatsApp, in addition to those related to development. of the metaverse and virtual reality, such as Oculus or Horizon Worlds.

As we told you at the time, in March the social network began sending invitations to  a group of beta testers  for its new social virtual reality app  Facebook Horizon,  in what was its first step in building virtual worlds before  Workrooms.

As the company explained at the time,  “Before entering Horizon for the first time, people will design their own avatars from a variety of style and body options, to ensure that everyone can fully express their individuality. From there, magical portals, called telepods, will transport users from public spaces to new worlds full of adventure and exploration . “At first people will jump into games and experiences created by Facebook, like Wing Strikers, a multiplayer aerial experience . ”

A year and a half later, Facebook has decided to give this project a twist,  changing its name to Horizon Worlds  and  launching a creator fund of 10 million dollars (about 8.6 million euros) to encourage more people to come. to build with us as we continue to deploy Horizon in beta. Perhaps one of the keys to the future name of Facebook lies in this name change.

Facebook will hire 10,000 employees in the EU to boost the metaverse
This news about the company's name change comes shortly after its announcement that it plans to hire 10,000 highly qualified workers from the European Union over the next 5 years to accelerate its reconversion towards the metaverse. “ The EU has a series of advantages that make it an ideal place for technology companies to invest: a large consumer market, first-class universities and, above all, top-quality talent ,” the company explains.

Specifically about Spain , Facebook assures that “ record levels of investment are being recorded in startups that solve all types of problems, from online food delivery to neuroelectronics .” Facebook has long been betting on European talent, from funding scholarships at the Technical University of Munich, to the opening of our first major European AI research laboratory and the FAIR accelerator program in France, to the Facebook office Reality Labs in Cork.
